Sika Deer 2014 Season

     Day Of Hunting

Archery Season

• Day 1 - 3 hunters saw 11 deer and harvested 4 Sika doe.  Weather was hot and humid, temp in upper 90's.

• Day 2 - Weather was hot and humid.  3 hunters saw 10 deer.  4 were within range, but they passed them up.
  


• Day 3 - Morning hunt only.  3 hunters saw 6 deer, passed 1 up.  Weather was overcast with the temp in mid 70's.
  


• Day 4 - Weather was hot and humid.  3 hunters saw 11 deer, killed one 7-point whitetail buck and 1 Sika doe.

• Day 5 - Cooler temp in mid 70's.  3 hunters saw 18 deer, including 1 nice stag, 1 smaller stag and harvested 1 Sika doe.
  


• Day 6 - Morning hunt -- 2 hunters saw 5 deer.  They shot and killed 1 Sika doe, but missed 1 Sika doe.
  Evening hunt -- 3 hunters saw 21 deer, passed up on 7 of them that were w/in range. They killed 1 doe & 1 fox.
  Another group of 2 hunters saw 5 deer...1 6-point stag, 1 spike or 4-pointer (could not tell) and 3 doe. They killed a doe.


• Day 7 - One hunter hunted a half day (afternoon hunt)...saw a 6-point stag which was out of range. Also saw a Sika doe, but didn’t shoot because of the stag bedded down but out of range.


• Day 8 - 2 hunters saw 4 doe and a small 4-pointer.


• Day 9 - 2 hunters saw a small doe, shot and missed at a spike.


• Day 10 - 1 hunter saw a doe and got a doe.


• Day 11 - 1 hunter did not see any deer.


• Day 12 - 1 hunter saw a 4-pointer which was 30 yards away...did not shoot since he wanted a 6-pointer.


• Day 13 - 1 hunter saw and killed a nice 6-pointer.

• Day 14 - 7 hunters saw 11 deer and killed 1 doe.


• Day 15 - 7 hunters saw 10 deer including 1 nice stag and 1 small stag. They harvested 2 doe and lost a spike.
  
    Smithville -- 4 hunters 3 days saw 2 stag and 1 hind.


• Day 16 - 1/2 day -- 1 hunter saw 2 deer and missed a doe.


• Day 17 - 1/2 day -- 1 hunter did not see any deer.


• Day 18 - 5 hunters saw 3 deer including a nice 6-pointer.


• Day 19 - 6 hunters saw 17 deer and shot one, but could not find it.


• Day 20 - 5 hunters saw 10 deer and hit a 6-point trophy, but could not find it.


• Day 21 - 1 hunter saw 4 deer (a small stag and 3 doe)...did not shoot since he was hoping and waiting for a bigger buck to come in.
  
    Smithville -- 1 hunter saw 1 stag, 3 doe and shot a doe.


• Day 22 - 3 hunters saw 2 deer and killed 1 doe.


• Day 23 - 3 hunters saw 12 deer...no shots.


• Day 24 - 3 hunters saw 3 deer (inc1uding a small stag) and shot a spike.




Early Muzzleloader season   (first muzzleloader season for bucks and doe)

• Day 1 - 7 hunters saw 6 deer and killed 2 doe. Weather very warm, temperature approaching 80 degrees.
  
    Smithville -- 1 hunter saw 15 deer and shot a spike and a doe.


• Day 2 - 8 hunters saw 6 deer including a spike. They shot at a small stag but did not recover it. Temperature in mid to high 70's.
  
  
  
    Smithville -- 3 hunters did not see any deer.


• Day 3 - 2 hunters saw 5 deer (3 whitetail doe, 1 Sika spike and 1 Sika doe) and shot the Sika doe.
  
  
  
    Smithville -- 3 hunters shot 1 doe.



Archery season continues

• Day 25 - 3 hunters saw 2 doe.
  


• Day 26 - 1 hunter saw 3 Sika deer...shot 1 Sika doe and saw 2 whitetail doe.
  


• Day 27 - 4 hunters saw and killed 1 doe.
  


• Day 28 - 4 hunters saw 2 whitetail doe, shot a doe but did not recover it.
  


• Day 29 - 3 hunters saw 6 deer, shot a doe in the foot but did not recover it.
  


• Day 30 - 3 hunters saw no deer. Weather was rainy with 35 mile per hour winds.
  


• Day 31 - 1 hunter saw 2 deer and killed a doe.
  


• Day 32 - 1 hunter saw 2 doe and a small stag....didn't take any shots.
  


• Day 33 -
    Smithville -- 2 hunters saw 15 - 20 deer. Temp was very cold and deer were moving. Rut was very apparent.

• Day 34 (r) - 6 hunters saw 23 doe, 4 spikes and 2 6-pointers....1 6-pointer was killed.

• Day 35 (r) - 5 hunters saw 9 doe, killed 1 doe and saw 2 bucks (1 spike, 1 larger than a spike but too far away to tell).
  


• Day 36 (r) - 2 hunters saw 2 deer (1 doe and 1 buck).
  


• Day 37 (r) - 1 hunter saw and shot this buck.
  


• Day 38 (r) - 4 hunters saw 3 doe and 1 6-pointer.
  


• Day 39 (r) - 5 hunters killed 1 6-pointer and saw 4 doe.
  


• Day 40 (r) - 2 hunters saw no deer.
  




Late Muzzleloader season

• Day 1 - 2 hunters saw 2 deer ( 1 was a nice buck ).
  


• Day 2 - 3 hunters went out and saw no deer. Weather was very mild.
  


• Day 3 - 1 hunter went out, but saw nothing.
  


• Day 4 - 1 hunter saw 2 deer and shot a doe.
  


• Day 5 - 2 hunters were out and didn't see any deer.
  


• Day 6 - 2 hunters saw 4 deer and didn't get anything.
  




Archery season continues

• Day 41 - 4 hunters went out for 1/2 day and saw 1 doe. Weather was very cold and windy.
  


• Day 42 (r) - 6 hunters saw 28 deer (10 stags and 18 doe) and killed 2 doe. Some of the stags were spikes.
  


• Day 43 (r) - 5 hunters saw 15 doe and killed 3 doe. They also saw 1 trophy 6-point buck but it was too far away to shoot at.
  


• Day 44 - 3 hunters saw 3 deer and killed 2 doe.
  


• Day 45 - 2 hunters saw 1 doe and killed 1 doe.
  


• Day 46 (f) - 2 hunters saw 20 deer and shot 1 doe.
  


• Day 47 (f) - 2 hunters saw 15 deer and shot 2 doe.
  


• Day 48 (f) - 1 hunter saw 5 deer.
  

• Day 1 - 7 hunters saw 8 deer....2 spikes, 2 misses and 2 doe killed.
  


• Day 2 - 8 hunters saw 18 deer, 7 of which were bucks. They killed 2 doe and missed a spike.
  



• Day 3 - 3 hunters saw 8 deer, 1 doe killed.

"I wanted to take a moment and tell you what a great experience we had this weekend while hunting at the Smithfield property. Although the animal sighting were few and far between because of the weather, we enjoyed ourselves.

The best was not the fact that I arrowed my first ever Sika deer but the interaction with your guide Jason. I have been on guided trips from Canada to Montana but have never met someone that cares about the experience his hunters have like Jason. We will be back next year!"

Early Muzzleloader season   (first muzzleloader season for bucks and doe)

• 3 days - 8 hunters saw 20 doe, 4 Sika spikes, 1  4-point Sika, 2  6-point Sika bucks and 1 white tail buck.  One Sika buck was too far away to see rack.  Harvested 2  6-point Sika bucks and 2 Sika doe.  Some hunters did not hunt the entire 3 days as they left after getting their deer.  For example, only 2 hunters remained on the last day.
  

        


Archery season continues

• Day 15 - 1 hunter saw 1 deer.
  


• Day 16 - 2 hunters saw 0 deer.
  


• Day 17 - 4 hunters saw 2 stags and 11 doe.
  


• Day 18 - 2 hunters saw 0 deer.

"Percy, I just wanted to commend you for having some of the most beautiful land and for finding one of the best guides for your clients.  I have spent a weekend down there this fall twice now with different hunting buddies.  Both times we came back with Sika (mine and 1 friends a hind, my son a stag).  Jason just bends over backwards to make sure everyone is happy, has the best chance at a trophy and is an overall wonderful guide.  He put us in some awesome stands, always communicated well (although cell reception was iffy at best from the marsh), and gave us great service once the Sika were down. He tromped through marsh in the dark to find my sons stag and skinned and butchered the Sika as we asked.  He even tanned my hind skin and sent it off to a tanner for me.  I also want to say that I heard about you initially from Jason when I came across his number and communicated with him last summer about Sika hunting.  He gave me your website.

It's also amazing that all 3 youth hunters on youth weekend were successful. Thats a testament to your guide and your operation.  Great job!!

• Day 1 - 7 hunters saw 1 spike Sika deer, 2 whitetail doe and 9 Sika doe.  They shot 1 whitetail doe and got 1 spike Sika.
  


• Day 2 - 3 hunters saw a doe and a spike...killed 1 spike.
  


• Day 3 - 2 hunters saw 2 doe.
  


• Day 4 - 3 hunters saw 2  6-point Sika deer and 2 doe.  1 Sika doe was killed.
  


• Day 5 - 1 hunter saw 5 deer....deer too far away to identify whether a doe or buck.
  


• Day 6 - 2 hunters saw 2 Sika doe and got 2 doe.
  


• Day 7 - 2 hunters saw 3 Sika doe.
  


• Day 8 - 5 hunters saw 0 deer.

Sika Deer 2012 Season

     Day Of Hunting

• Day 1 - 1 hunter saw 6 doe and had 1 missed shot.
  


• Day 2 - 2 hunters saw 8 deer...1 hunter had 3 under the stand.
  


• Day 3 - 2 hunters saw 11 doe and killed 1. Also saw 1  6-point stag which stopped short of coming in close enough.
  


• Day 4 - 1 hunter hunting...saw 1 doe, shot and killed the doe.
  


• Day 5 - 2 hunters saw 3 deer...1 was a buck and a doe was killed.
  


• Day 6 - Poor hunting conditions - full moon and 80 degree heat.  7 hunters saw 2  6-pointers, 1 doe
  and killed a spike.
  


• Day 7 - 7 hunters saw a total of 16 deer:  5  6-pointers (1 might have been 4-pointer), 3 spikes and 4 doe.
  Hunters killed a spike...should have killed 5, but the deer snuck in and out before they could get a shot off.
  


• Day 8 - 1 hunter saw 5 doe, missed 1 doe.
  


• Day 9 - 1 hunter saw 5 doe and killed 1 doe.
  


• Day 10 - 3 hunters saw 4 doe, 1  4-pointer, 1 stag and 1 spike.
  


• Day 11 - 1 hunter saw 4-5 doe and 1  a-typical stag that did not allow for a good shot.
  


• Day 12 - 1 hunter saw 8 doe.

• Day 1 - Temp was 70 - poor hunting weather.  8 hunters saw 13 doe, 2 spikes, 5  6-pointers and
  killed a 4-pointer.
  


• Day 2 - Temp was 75 - poor hunting weather.  8 hunters saw 13 doe, 2 spikes and 2  6-pointers.

• Day 1 - 5 hunters saw 2 deer.
  



Archery season continues

• Day 16 - 2 hunters hunted for 30 minutes...saw a spike and killed a doe.
  


• Day 17 - 2 hunters hunted for 45 minutes...saw 1 spike, 14 doe and killed 2 doe.
  


• Day 18 & 19 - 1 hunter was out...buggleing and splashing all around, but no sightings.
  




Rifle Season

• Day 1 - 9 hunters saw 12 doe and 6 bucks, killed 1 spike and 2 doe.  One deer observed was an 8-point white tail.  A 12-year old youth killed his first deer with a firearm.
  


• Day 2 - 9 hunters saw 13 doe and 3 bucks...2 of the bucks were spikes and one was a 6-pointer.  Two doe were killed.
  


• Day 3 - 6 hunters saw 6 bucks.  They shot 2  6-pointers and 1 spike.  They also saw 5 doe, shot at and missed 1 doe.

• Day 4 - 5 hunters saw 5 doe.  No shots were taken.
  




Late Muzzleloader season

• Day 1 - 7 hunters saw 23 deer, killed 1 and missed 2.
  


• Day 2 - 7 hunters saw 14 deer, killed a doe, missed a  6-pointer and missed 2 doe.
  


• Day 3 - 1 hunter saw 4 doe and 1 stag.
  


• Day 4 - 2 hunters saw 3 deer and missed 1.

Sika Deer 2011 Season

     Day Of Hunting

• Day 1 - 2 hunters saw 1 spike and 2 doe.
  


• Day 2 - 3 adult and 2 youth hunters saw 2 whitetail doe, 2 Sika deer doe and shot 1 doe. Hunters also saw 1 spike and got 1 spike.
  


• Day 3 - 2 hunters saw 2 doe.
  


• Day 4 - 1 hunter saw 16 deer... 1 real nice  6-point spike and 14 doe.
  


• Day 5 - 2 hunters did not see any deer.
  


• Day 6 - 2 hunters saw and shot 1 Sika doe.
  


• Day 7 - 3 hunters saw 6 spikes and 5 doe...and harvested 1 doe.
  


• Day 8 - 1 hunter saw 2 spikes and 1  3-pointer.
  


• Day 9 - 2 hunters saw 2 doe and 1 spike.
  


• Day 10 - 2 hunters saw  5 to 6-point whitetail buck, 1 spike Sika buck and 2 Sika doe.
  Later that day another hunter saw 1 spike, 2 doe, 1 whitetail buck and 1  5-point Sika.
  


• Day 11 - 4 hunters saw 4 doe, 4 spikes and 1  6-pointer. 1 hunter killed a spike while another hunter
  could have had a deer but was waiting for a trophy.
  


• Day 12 - 1 hunter saw 2 Sika doe, 1 Sika buck and killed 1 Sika doe.
  


• Day 13 - 1 hunter saw 3 deer...2 were doe and the other one was a buck.
  


• Day 14 - 5 hunters saw a 6-pointer, 6 doe, killed 1 doe and shot at another doe.
  


• Day 15 - Unusually high tide...marshes were flooded.   5 hunters saw 33 doe and 12 bucks (couple of them were 6-pointers).   1 spike and 1 doe were killed.
  


• Day 16 - 5 hunters saw 8 doe and 8 bucks (3  6-pointers, 1  5-pointer and the rest were spikes).
  The hunters killed 2 doe and 1  5-pointer.

• Day 17 - 1 hunter did not see any deer, but heard a lot of Sika bucks bugling.
  


• Day 18 - 2 hunters saw 9 doe and 1 stag.
  



Muzzleloader season

• Day 1 - Extremely high tides.  There were 7 hunters out during the morning hunt...
  2 hunters saw 2 spikes and 4 doe while another hunter saw 3 deer.
  1 hunter believed he saw close to 50 deer and stopped counting at 20...we need serial numbers on the deer to verify his count!
  1 hunter saw and shot at a 4-pointer...had a 6-pointer come out afterwards and also saw 12 doe.
  Another hunter saw a 6-pointer and 4 doe...the 6-pointer came within 20 yards, was young and had 11" tall horns. This hunter has shot at 6-pointers before, but he was waiting for something bigger.
  During the afternoon hunt 24 deer were sighted including a 6-pointer which was too far away to shoot.

• Day 2 - Hunter shot a 6-pointer (picture below).   During the afternoon, 6 hunters saw 25 doe, 1 6-pointer and 2 tall spikes.

• Day 4 - 3 hunters missed a 5-pointer, saw a 4-pointer, saw a tall spike and 3 whitetail doe.   They also saw 9 Sika doe and a small 4-point Sika buck.

• Day 19 - 2 hunters saw 2 doe and killed a doe.
  


• Day 20 - 2 hunters saw 1 doe and missed it.
  


• Day 21 - 5 hunters killed 1  6-pointer, 1 doe, missed a doe and saw 4 doe.
  


• Day 22 - 5 hunters saw 5 doe.
  


• Day 23 - 5 hunters saw 3 doe and 1  4-pointer.
  



Youth Hunt

• Overall - 5 hunters saw 2  6-pointers, 17 doe and 3 spikes.  They killed 1  6-pointer, killed 1 doe
  and missed 1  6-pointer.
  



Rifle Season

• 1st couple of days - 10 hunters saw 43 doe, killed 2  6-pointers and 1 doe.
  6 hunters saw 19 deer, killed 1  6-pointer, 1 doe and 1 spike.

Sika Deer 2010 Season

     Day Of Hunting

• Day 1 - 2 hunters saw 6 deer.
  


• Day 2 - 4 hunters saw 6 deer....5 doe and 1 spike buck. One hunter shot at a doe. Hunters also saw 5 raccoons and 1 fox.
  


• Day 3 - 2 hunters saw 12 deer....3 bucks and the remainder were doe.
  



• Day 4 - 2 hunters saw 11 deer, all were doe.
  


• Day 5 - 4 hunters saw 12 deer....10 doe and 2 stags. They killed 1 doe and missed 1 doe.
  



Muzzleloader season

• Day 1 - 12 hunters saw 45 doe, 12 stags and 4 six-pointers.  2 six-pointers were killed.
  


• Day 2 - 13 hunters saw 30 doe and 15 stags...killed a 4-pointer, missed a 5-pointer and 6-pointer.
  


• Day 3 - 9 hunters sighted 18 doe, 7 stags, 1 six-pointer and 1 spike.  Hunters killed 1 doe and 1 spike while they missed 2 doe and 1 spike.

Sika Deer 2009 Season

• Day 1 - 3 hunters saw 17 Sika deer....2 hunters got their doe, while the other hunter missed his shot.
  


• Day 2 - 3 hunters saw 13 deer and 1 hunter shot a doe.
  


• Day 3 - 3 hunters saw 14 deer....1 spike Sika deer was killed. An 8-point white tail buck with a nice rack was also seen.
  


• Day 4 - 5 hunters saw 20 deer, including a Sika doe that was shot. 3 spike Sika deer were seen and 1   4-point Sika buck was also observed.
  


• Day 5 - 1 hunter saw 4 Sika doe and killed 1 doe...also saw a 6-point Sika buck.
  


• Day 6 - 2 hunters saw 12 Sika deer and killed 1 doe...also saw a 5-point buck.
  


• Day 7 - 2 hunters saw 10 Sika deer...also observed were 2   6-pointers and
  1   4-pointer.
  


• Day 8 - 1 hunter saw a 6-point Sika buck and a doe.
  


• Day 9 - 1 hunter (with binoculars) saw 10 doe, 2   6-point Sika deer,
  1   5-pointer and 1   4-point Sika buck.
  


• Day 10 - A hunter killed a 5-point Sika deer...pictures are shown below and outstanding video footage will be available soon on the web site.
  
        



• Day 11 - 1 hunter saw a 6-point Sika buck and 3 doe. The 6-pointer was within 15 yards from the hunter, but he was unable to get a shot off.
  


• Day 12 - A hunter saw 10 doe and 3 stags (2 were 6-pointers).
  


• Day 13 - 6 hunters saw 7 doe and killed 1. They also saw 2 spike Sika deer, but missed both.
  


• Day 14 - 6 hunters saw 8 Sika doe, shot and missed 1 and killed 1. They also saw 1 whitetail doe and 1   6-point Sika buck.
  


• Day 15 - 5 hunters saw 2 Sika spikes, shot at and missed 1. The hunters saw 5 Sika doe, shot at 1 but the the arrow bounced off.
  


• Day 16 - 2 hunters saw 1 doe.
  


• Day 17 - 5 hunters saw 17 deer, missed 2 deer.
  


• Day 18 - 2 hunters saw 4 doe, missed 1 doe.
  One hunter had video and video taped a 6-point Sika buck mating a doe. Film footage will soon be on our web site. We believe this footage is very rare and to our knowledge no one else has footage of Sika deer mating in the wild.
  



Muzzleloader season for the following 3 days

• Day 19 - 12 hunters saw 12 bucks which included 5   6-pointers, 1   4-pointer,
  1   5-pointer, 2 spikes, and 3 stags (with unknown points).
  They also observed 19 doe.
  


• Day 20 - 12 hunters saw 4   6-pointers, 2 spikes and 15 doe. The hunters killed
  2   6-pointers, 1 spike and 2 doe.

• Day 21 - 2 hunters saw 2   6-pointers, 2 spikes and 4 doe.
  


• Day 22 - 1 hunters saw 3 doe.

• Day 5 morning - 5 hunters saw 6 deer and shot 2 doe.

• Day 6 morning - 5 hunters saw 10 doe and shot 1.
           evening - 5 hunters saw 1 big stag and 9 doe...no shots taken.


• Day 7 - 3 hunters saw 8 deer and 2 whitetail, but took no shots.


• Day 8 evening - 1 hunter saw 2 deer and shot 1.


• Day 9 morning - 3 hunters didn't see any deer.
           evening - 3 hunters saw 3 deer and shot 1 doe.


• Hunting for 3 days - 4 hunters saw 5 deer and got 1 deer. They also hit a doe and lost it...should've had another but didn't shoot.
